THE STORY BEHIND THE COLOUR

At Rangaai, colour isn’t simply added to fabric. It is built through hands, natural materials and traditional resist-dyeing techniques — often taking several steps before a piece is ready to be worn.

Flower & plant dyes — Colours are created using botanicals, flowers and other natural sources.
Stitch resist — Fabric is carefully stitched by hand before dyeing to create patterns that emerge when the stitches are opened.
Clamp dyeing — A Japanese Shibori technique where folded fabric is clamped before dyeing, creating organic, contrasting forms.
Hand-painted details — Some surfaces are painted individually by hand, making every piece subtly different.

24 Hours of Making

Each piece goes through a careful, hands-on process that can take around 24 hours from preparation to finishing.

Dyes That Follow Nature

Plant-based dyes are naturally unpredictable. Their colour can change with the season, temperature and source of the plant — making every batch slightly different.

50 metres of sampling

Before a colour or design is launched, we work through extensive sampling — sometimes using up to 50 metres of fabric to get the result right.

Handwoven fabric only

Natural dyes need the right kind of fabric to bind and develop properly. That’s why we work with carefully chosen natural fibres rather than mill-made synthetic fabrics.

Handwash with mild detergent or reetha, rinse gently and dry in the shade. No dry cleaning or tumble drying. We suggest washing your Rangaai in the evening, so it can dry gently overnight away from direct sunlight

Chanderi is known for its colour longevity and does not easily fade with proper care. Khadi, when cared for gently as recommended, can last 4–5 years or more. Natural fabrics and dyes respond best to gentle washing, shade drying, and a little care.
